Doku — The Lost Chronicle · November 1, 2026
The short version. Doku — The Lost Chronicle is an adventure game for children aged 5 to 13. It has no ads, no purchases, no account and no chat with other people, and it never asks for a name, email or photo. All progress (the Chronicle's pages, the explorer's notebook, the chapters won) stays on the device. The only data that leaves the device is usage statistics, crash reports and performance measurements (Google Firebase), which describe a device, never a child, without the advertising ID. Every link out of the game goes through a parental gate first.
Who we are
Doku — The Lost Chronicle (called Doku — La Chronique perdue in French; Android app com.appynamic.chronicle) is published by APPYNAMIC, Rue des Cyprès, 62290 Noeux-les-Mines, France, the controller of the processing described here. This notice describes how this game handles data. It sits alongside our company-wide Appynamic Privacy and Cookie Policy. Where the two differ about Doku — The Lost Chronicle, this page is the more specific one.
A game made for children
Doku — The Lost Chronicle is directed to children and is designed to follow the Google Play Families Policy. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The game has:
- no advertising, no advertising identifier, no in-app purchases and no subscription;
- no account, sign-up, login or profile, and no field where a child can type text (the only thing ever typed in the game is the numeric answer to the parental gate, which is not kept);
- no chat, no contact with other players, no online leaderboard, no social features;
- no location, camera, microphone, contacts or photos access, and no notifications.
The "photos" taken in some mini-games are drawings made by the game: they stay inside the game and are not saved to the device's gallery.
What stays on the device
The game saves its progress and settings in the app's local storage, under names starting with olhain_. None of it is sent to us:
- progress: the Chronicle pages found, the species in the explorer's notebook, the chapters won, the best stars in each mini-game, the coins earned, the number of games played and of right answers to Hoot's questions;
- settings: sound effects, music, vibration, graphics quality, language, the chosen companion and the episode shown on the home screen;
- separately, the Google Play link the game was installed from (see below).
Android may include this data in the device's own backup (Google's Android backup or a transfer to a new phone), as it does for most apps.
Erasing it. In the settings, the For parents section has Erase progress, behind the parental gate: the whole Chronicle starts again from scratch. Uninstalling the game, or clearing its storage in the device settings, erases everything the game has saved.
Statistics, crash reports and performance measurements
To fix bugs, keep the game running smoothly on real phones and see which parts of the game are played, Doku — The Lost Chronicle includes three Google Firebase components. They describe a device and a session, never a person.
| Service | What it collects | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase Analytics | The screens opened (home, map, chapter, mini-game, Chronicle, notebook, companions, credits), without the name of the chapter or mini-game played, and the events Firebase records on its own (first launch, sessions, time spent, game or system updates); device model, operating-system version, language, approximate country and region, app version and a Firebase app-instance identifier. | To know which parts of the game are played, and on which devices. |
| Firebase Crashlytics | App crashes: where in the code they happened, the device model, operating-system and app version, the device's state at that moment (free memory and storage, screen orientation), the last screens opened and an installation identifier. | To find and fix crashes. |
| Firebase Performance | Start-up time, display smoothness and time spent in the foreground, with the device model, operating-system and app version, approximate country, network type and mobile carrier, and a Firebase installation identifier. | To find what makes the game slow on real devices. |
We configured these components for a children's game: the advertising identifier is not collected, nor is the Android ID (SSAID), ad personalisation signals are turned off, and no user identifier is ever set. The game sends no events of its own: not the child's answers, not the pages or species found, not the chapter played. We do not use this data for advertising or profiling, only to fix and improve the game; we look at it as reports in the Firebase console.
Legal basis. This measurement relies on our legitimate interest in keeping the game working, fixing its errors and improving it (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Stopping it. The game does not, today, have a setting to turn this measurement off. To stop any data leaving the device, uninstall the game; for any question or request about this data, write to us (see Your rights).
Google as processor. Google (Firebase) processes this data on our behalf, under the Firebase and Google Analytics data processing terms. Its servers may be outside the European Union, in particular in the United States; these transfers are covered by the same terms (the European Commission's standard contractual clauses). Firebase processing is described in Google's Firebase privacy documentation.
The Google Play install link
On first launch, the game asks Google Play which link it was installed from (the install "referrer", for example the name of a campaign or of a store page). It reads it only once and keeps it on the device, so that a future version can adapt its look to the store page it was installed from (for example a seasonal page); today, the game does not use it yet. The game sends it nowhere. This link describes a store page, not the person who followed it. Firebase Analytics may also use it to attribute the game's first launch to that link's campaign.
Links out of the game and the parental gate
The game contains only a few links to the outside, all to our own website: the Olhain website (in the For parents section of the settings and on the Chronicle page), the privacy page (in For parents) and appynamic.com (at the bottom of the Credits). Each one first goes through a parental gate — a multiplication a young child cannot do yet — then opens in the phone's browser, outside the game. Those pages have their own privacy policy.
Android permissions
The game asks for no permission while playing: the ones it uses are granted at install, and none gives access to personal information. The game itself plays offline.
INTERNET,ACCESS_NETWORK_STATEandWAKE_LOCK: sending statistics, crash reports and performance measurements (Firebase).VIBRATE: the game's small vibrations, which can be turned off in the settings (Vibration).BIND_GET_INSTALL_REFERRER_SERVICE: reading the Google Play install link, once.
The advertising identifier is never read: its collection is turned off in the game's configuration.
What Doku — The Lost Chronicle does not do
- No ads, no purchases, no subscriptions.
- No account, name, email, phone number, photo or voice collected.
- No location, camera, microphone, contacts or notifications.
- No game server: progress is never sent to us, and we store nothing about your child.
- No sale or sharing of personal data, no profiling.
How long data is kept
Data on the device is kept until it is deleted (Erase progress, clearing the app's storage or uninstalling). Statistics, crash reports and performance measurements are kept by Google Firebase for the periods set in its documentation and in our Firebase project's retention settings (for example, Crashlytics keeps crash reports for 90 days).
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of data, and to complain to a supervisory authority (in France, the CNIL). Because the game holds no account or profile on our side, and Firebase data is linked to no name, there is usually nothing we can retrieve on our side for a given device. Uninstalling the game stops all collection and erases everything it saved on the device. To exercise a right, or for any question, in particular as a parent, contact us.
Changes
If the game starts handling data differently, this page is updated and the date at the top changes.
