Stack Up becomes Doku Stack Up

3 mins to read

Stack Up was our first game: a block slides over the tower, you tap, and whatever hangs over is sliced off. Version 2 keeps that rule — the same score in floors, the same Google Play Games leaderboard — and changes everything else. It is now called Doku Stack Up.

A doku on the block

The dokus, the little companions from Doku Tap and Doku Hole, move into the tower. Yours rides the sliding block (the top of the tower sits exactly at the next block's height: no room to stand there), hops onto every new floor, dances on perfects and falls with a missed block.

Each of the 60 dokus — Doku Tap's whole catalogue — has a power:

  • Shield: one miss forgiven per game;
  • Slow-mo: blocks 15 to 25% slower;
  • Precision: perfects up to twice as easy;
  • Piggy bank: up to twice the coins;
  • Regrow: the tower grows back sooner on a perfect streak;
  • Magnet: the first floors land easily.

You unlock them with your best score, your games, your coins… or by watching videos.

Hearts to keep going

A fall no longer has to be the end: a heart (one free every day, five at most) or a video lets you pick the tower up where it stopped, twice per game.

Arcade mode: the tower on the beat

Next to Classic mode, Arcade stacks up to four towers side by side: a new one opens after 6, 14 and then 24 placements, and you tap the column of the one you want to raise. Every placement is judged on the beat of the music — right on time, it earns extra points — and golden blocks double your points for five placements. Every tower has its own doku: yours on the first, another one on each tower that opens — and some only ride in "their" world. Three lives, and a record and leaderboard of its own.

Eight worlds, and a style of your own

Zen (the colours of the first version), Ethnic, Desert, Glacial, Jungle, Candy, Demon and Fairytale: each world has its own sky, palette, music and particles — fireflies, embers pulsing to the rhythm, snowflakes, leaves… In the desert, the wind pushes the blocks. You also pick the blocks' texture (wood, marble, neon, holo… thirteen in all), shape and size, and the music. Combos — the perfects of a single game — unlock the rarest ones.

Under the hood

The game is rewritten in Nuxt 4 and Capacitor 8, rendered with three.js on WebGPU (and WebGL2 when the phone can't). Block speed is finally measured in units per second: on a 120 Hz screen, version 1 ran twice as fast. And for day-one players: on first launch, your record is read back from the Google Play Games leaderboard, and the achievements you already earned stay.

Doku Stack Up comes to Google Play as an update of Stack Up. The web version remains the 1.0 one.
